News 2005 - 2006

Gone to Auntie Jennie's for Christmas, on vacation whee! I got so much stuff!

23 months, and Mommy is happy with me yay! I peed while sitting on my potty yesterday, and it was fun so I kept trying until I could not squeeze any more out. I'm on my way to big boy now!

22 months, I like cheese and blankets (my kikis!) and balls and my coat.

21 months, running running and bottom molars coming in.

20 month checkup! I'm healthy!

19 months, I like things that roll.... Upper rear molars coming in! I sit on the potty now, but I have no idea what to do with it. Still climbing.

18 months. Climbing on everything. EVERTHING!!!

16 months. Running away when I get stuff I want that Mommy or Daddy doesn’t want me to have.

Magnets are fun. Back to throwing food on the floor…. Phone is still my favorite toy. Said “milk” and “baba” (bottle).

Walking, babbling, saying “up” and “daddy”.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

12-21-05, BIG DAY! First tooth started coming in (lower front, left) and I took my first toddling steps!

Big day today, 12-03. I opened the junk drawer and found a tennis ball. I took the ball out (with help) and played with it. When Mommy asked me to throw the ball, I did! And when the ball rolled down the single step in the kitchen, I went after it (carefully) and threw it back into the kitchen! Yay me! I also WAVED at Daddy today! Several times! First time waving.

Pinkeye. BOOO to eyedrops!

STANDING!! CRAWLING from room to room! I’m mobile, the world is my jar of fruit! Had my first ear infection.

Teething fiercely, gnawing on anything and everything to ease the pain. Mommy or Daddy’s fingers work pretty well, as do stuffed animals and most of my toys.

First emergency room visit on July 4th. I had roseola but who could have known?

First sore throat. Got Mommy sick too, then Daddy followed. I’m all better now but Daddy still sounds funny. Croak croak! Daddy’s a frog!

Got my first cold! And my second! I’ve been sick for about a week, sniffle gurgle. I’m NOT fond of the holding-me-down-and-spraying-saline-into-my-nose-and-suctioning thing. No sir, don’t like it at all.

I’m in daycare now, and I’m adjusting. They take good care of me, and I get to swing and I get tummy time and I get to play in a neat chair with lots of hangy things to grab at.

I’m going into daycare on May 9th. I hope they take good care of me!

More recently, I’ve been working hard at recognizing faces and gave my very first genuine smile to Grandpa Soper. Boy, did that make him happy! So then I gave him a nice big poop but that did not make him as happy. Fickle, fickle grandparents!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Mostly, I lay about and poop. Sometimes I cry. If I am feeling especially cranky, I poop, then cry.

Responsibilities 2005 - 2006:

Learning to say more words every day. Potty training has started! Also I'm learning to say "please" when I want something.

Learning words. Lots, and lots, of words. Coat, pillow, blanket, puppy, juice, welcome, outside, bubble...

Saying "ak oo" (thank you) and "aaw done" and Mine..minemineminemine...baby gates are so easy to flip over as to make me laugh. Haha, Mommy, you are not protected by that mere three feet of molded plastic! *flip*

Two word sentences, working on it! Learning what "time-out" is...

First haircut!

Yay! Mommy got me a training potty. I play with it but I’m really not sure what to do with it yet….

I say Cookie, Mommy, Daddy, Twee, Bird, Up, Down, Cat, Milk….yakky yak!

I can say a few words but I don’t make much sense yet. I did see a tree today and said “twee” and Mommy said "Yes, Tree!" all happy like and I was SO EXCITED that she understood me!

Running next, can toddle faster than Mommy can run to get whatever I’m reaching for.

Walking well, bending over to pick things up now without falling over. I like looking between my legs.

Walking is next! Toddle, toddle, fall!

Waving! Throwing balls! And toys! And tantrums!

Still cruising, I’m letting go for a second or so now to try and stand. I grab Mommy’s hand if she offers and walk holding on to it!

I’m letting go and trying to stand on my own a little, and cruising around the playpen Mommy bought me. I’m trying to stand up while crawling by sticking my butt way up in the air and locking my legs. Mommy laughs when I do this.

CRAWLED TODAY, September 12th! Actual crawling, on knees! Got a foot and a half, flopped on my stomach and cried for Mommy to pick me up. Oh well, it’s a start.

I’m sitting up! Well, I’m sitting, if you put me up. I can pull up to a standing position too! Working on crawling!

My favorite things to do are to make raspberry noises with my lips, and kissy sounds! I can go “muah!” with my lower lip and it sounds like a kiss…it’s so cute…

Babbled like gangbusters at Great-Grandma’s this weekend. Boy, was I talkative! Until I got sick.

Crawling is for insects. I WANT TO WALK! NOW!

Grabbing! Want toys! Gimme! WAHHHH can’t reach!

I’m sucking liquid-y rice cereal off of a spoon. Yuck.

I’m rolling over! And I get to start eating with a spoon TODAY, May 18th!
Trying to roll over, grasping at things a bit (Daddy’s chest hair a particular favorite), and I’ve giggled a time or two.

I’m smiling a lot now, and I love to watch my teddy bear mobile. I’m getting a lot more fussy, and I know how to cry when I just want to be picked up.

Still working on sleep deprivation experiment. Mommy is going back to work April 11th, and I think she’s found religion because I hear her talking to God a lot now; “please, God, let him sleep 4 hours tonight”. Funny Mommy!

I’m HOME!!! My responsibilities now include eating, pooping, sleeping, crying when the pacifier falls out of my mouth, and making sure Mommy and Daddy are semi-sleep deprived most of the time.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Pooping, crying, eating. I’m learning how to eat all my food from a bottle or a breast, and as soon as I can do that every three hours and still gain weight, I can go home. No pressure!

February 2005

You can understand and relate to most people better if you look at them -- no matter how old or impressive they may be -- as if they are children. For most of us never really grow up or mature all that much -- we simply grow taller. O, to be sure, we laugh less and play less and wear uncomfortable disguises like adults, but beneath the costume is the child we always are, whose needs are simple, whose daily life is still best described by fairy tales.

February 2006
2005 - 2006 Projects:

Good manners, going to the potty, playing by myself sometimes.

Learn to let Mommy and Daddy know when I have to go to the bathroom, learn "please" and "I'm sorry". Thank you and you're welcome I got!

Using a lego desk I got from school as a stepstool to get to everything on the counters, trying to help vacuum, playing with the computer (but only when Mommy and Daddy aren't looking!).

Sitting at Mommy's computer, pounding on her keyboard. And learning to eat with a spoon! (Oatmeal: good. Soup: bad.)

Running really fast, opening car doors, getting my own milk.

Balancing, whining, kissing, dancing, saying “more” and “all done” when eating.

Talking, eating with a spoon, learning to play well with others. Been biting a little and Mommy says NO to that!

Bad diaper rash, all bleedy and stuff. Talking. Eating with fork but a spoon is still too much for me. No more bottles! All on sippy cup now.

Had the stomach and intestinal flu the last two weeks. Runny poo and diaper rash, BOO!

Dialing 911. No, really; Daddy left the phone on the kitchen chest the other day, and I got it! YAYYYY! Then I started playing with the buttons…and Daddy caught me. BOOOO! Then a state trouper called back and said there had been a 911 hangup just a second before and was everything alright…Daddy and the trouper had a laugh about me. Phooey. I want the phone back.

Art projects at daycare! Mommy has artwork on the fridge YAY!

Walking, escaping my saucer by doing flips then climbing the basement stairs, giving up my bottle for a sippy cup (not by choice).

HOLDING MY OWN BOTTLE!! FINALLY!!! (Emphasis Mom’s).

Taking a step between objects while standing…it’s almost walking!

Throwing, saying “Mama” and “Dada” discriminately, understanding new words (ball, throw, come here, Ethan, “NO”, bottle, bath).

Saying “Mama” and Dada” indiscriminately, cruising, playing with my ball.

Standing, crawling, babbling, cruising.

Eating three meals a day, making stinky poops.

Crawling! Rolling over, sitting up, getting legs under me when I crawl.

BOUNCING!

Back to trying to roll over, and starting to put some effort into crawling…I can scoot around in a circle now. Standing assisted. I’m not rolling from back to stomach yet, I’m skipping all that stuff and heading straight for my feet.

I am grabbing items well now, and can target and grasp things I want to. Also trying to hold my own bottle!

Trying to roll from back to stomach. Usually on the changing table when Mommy is distracted.

Laughing! Hand-to-eye coordination (long way to go here).

Learning to eat from a spoon.

Learning to roll over.

Learning to laugh.

Learning to smile at people.

Reaching out for things that wander into my field of vision.

Spitting out my pacifier seconds before I would have fallen asleep.

Trying to stuff my fists into my mouth simultaneously.

Gazing up at whomever feeds me with smoky blue-grey eyes.

Feeding, growing, pooping, looking cute.

Personal Interests 2005-2006:

Stealing Mommy's wireless mouse.

Watching while Mommy cooks, dancing, trying to sing a little, and playing with the computer keyboard.

Puppies, puppies, and more puppies.  Going outside to play, and blowing bubbles!

"Mine mine, no no no no MINNNNNE" "Mine mine mine no no no mine mine mine..."

Teething, getting on Bucky and rocking for half an hour, trying to say the alphabet back when I hear it.

Tearing up the pop-up books, making Mommy and Daddy read to me all the time.

Feeding myself, flipping book pages and tearing out all the pop-ups in the books Grandma and Grandpa Soper gave me, throwing tantrums.

Still six teeth.  I chop well on food and would much rather eat what Mommy and Daddy are eating than what I’m supposed to eat.

Phones, wiggling to music, fussing about my teeth (I have six now!  Four top and two bottom).

Sleeping at night….does not take much to get me in bed after a hard day at school!

Make really silly noises.

Attaching myself to Mommy or Daddy like a barnacle and screaming if they put me down.

Still shoving everything in my mouth.  I wait until Mommy is not paying attention then go do things I’m not supposed to.

Crawling really, really fast until I lose control and spin out onto my face.

Slamming the cabinet doors on my fingers.

Watching Star Trek:  Deep Space 9 with Mommy and Daddy.

Squeeling with laughter when I’m thrown in the air or bounced on the bed.

Babbling and imitating inflections, trying to walk.

Rolling all over, standing with help, reaching for EVERYTHING including phones, knives, cups, paper, remote controls, cats, hair, CDs, gearshifts, glasses, blankets, toys, shoes, chair legs, scissors, pens, forks, PDAs, cameras, knobs, diaper wipes, nose bulbs, nail clippers ….and drooling on them.  If I can get them.

I like to play airplane with Mommy or Daddy!  VROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!

I am sitting still for short stories, and watching the pages when Daddy or Mommy reads!

Disco music, with Daddy making funny faces?  Hehehehe!  Hehe!

Solid food?  Sure, as long as it comes from a nipple.  HEY!  That’s NOT A NIPP…*glump*.

Mommy’s milk.  Lots of it.  NOW, and not a second later than NOW!  BRING ME MAH SUPPER!!

I don’t like baths.  Not one little bit.  See February 24th photos for my visual summation of getting a bath.

I’m really starting to like looking at people’s faces.  I’m also getting very very squirmy.
